In a stunning collaboration between Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen and Warner Bros., horology enthusiasts and movie buffs alike are in for a treat with the unveiling of two limited-edition timepieces inspired by the much-anticipated cinematic release, “Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.”
IWC Schaffhausen has taken the plunge into the DC film universe, presenting the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watches. Available in striking red or deep blue, these heroic timepieces echo the prop accessories provided by IWC Schaffhausen during the production of the film.
Christian Knoop, Chief Design Officer at IWC Schaffhausen, remarked, “Aquatimer is one of our most technical collections regarding case, movement, and dial design.” He explained that the watches were designed to perfectly complement the ultra-technical outfits and costumes of the villains in the movie, resulting in a powerful combination on the wrist.
Released on December 19, just days before the film’s theatrical debut on December 22, these limited-edition timepieces are not just a nod to the movie but a work of true craftsmanship. With an all-black design, including a ceratanium case, dial, watch face, and rubber straps, the watches incorporate vibrant red or blue detailing and typeface, reminiscent of the colorful world of Aquaman.
The 49mm timepieces boast a digital date-month display alongside the analog watch face and caliber. Worn by underwater villains in the movie, including the formidable Black Manta, Aquaman’s arch-nemesis, the watches are equipped to explore great depths thanks to IWC Schaffhausen’s “SafeDive” system.
Director James Wan expressed admiration for the watches, stating, “They’re not just accessories; they actually perform a very important function.” The watches, featured prominently on posters for the film, blend functionality with aesthetics in a way that resonates with the precision and craftsmanship of fine watchmaking.
Limited to 25 units per variant, these collector’s items are now available in select IWC Schaffhausen boutiques. Each watch comes with the “My IWC Passport” digital watch certificate, adding a touch of exclusivity to these already rare timepieces.
