Lyft has expanded its Women+ Connect feature nationwide, allowing female and non-binary riders to specifically request drivers who identify as female or non-binary. This update, first introduced in September, is now available in over 240 markets, making Lyft the sole rideshare company in the US to offer such a service.
Lyft CEO David Risher emphasized the significance of this feature, stating, “When rideshare is better for women and nonbinary people, rideshare is better for everyone.” The Women+ Connect feature aims to provide riders with added comfort and camaraderie during their journeys, addressing concerns regarding safety and personal preferences.
To access this option, riders can select their gender within the Lyft app’s settings, a feature currently being rolled out nationwide. Once eligible customers opt-in to the program, Lyft prioritizes matching them with a female or non-binary driver, though it does not guarantee such a match.
In addition to Women+ Connect, Lyft offers various safety features to reassure customers, including the ability to share their location with trusted contacts through the app’s safety settings. This commitment to rider safety aligns with Lyft’s ongoing efforts to enhance the overall customer experience.
While Lyft leads the charge with Women+ Connect, its competitor Uber also provides safety features designed to instill confidence in riders. These include measures such as verifying the car’s identity with a unique pin provided by the rider before starting the trip.
Beyond safety enhancements, Lyft has introduced several other features aimed at improving the overall ride experience. Last year, the company launched an on-time pickup promise for scheduled rides, ensuring compensation for customers in case of delays. Additionally, Lyft offers an “Extra Comfort” option, allowing riders to select roomier cars with top-rated drivers and specify preferences such as temperature and assistance with luggage.
As Lyft continues to innovate and prioritize rider safety and satisfaction, the expansion of Women+ Connect underscores its commitment to fostering a more inclusive and supportive rideshare environment for all. By empowering riders with greater control and choice, Lyft aims to set new standards for safety and accessibility in the transportation industry.
