BMW is set to revive the thrill of manual driving with the release of the 2025 BMW Z4. Breaking the hiatus of manual transmissions in recent models, the Z4 brings back the joy of three-pedal control.
At the heart of this exciting development is the “Handschalter” package, a German term translating to “hand shift.” Priced at $3,500, adding this option transforms the Z4 into a manual-driving enthusiast’s dream. Not only does it reintroduce the manual transmission, but it also comes with some distinctive features that elevate the Z4’s performance and aesthetics.
For those opting for the manual Z4, BMW offers the exclusive San Remo Green color, adding a unique touch. Additionally, there’s the option to upgrade to the BMW Individual color, Frozen Deep Green Metallic, for an additional $2,950, further enhancing the visual appeal.
The manual transmission is not the only exciting feature. BMW has fine-tuned the Z4 to complement the driving dynamics expected from enthusiasts. Sharing its transmission with the GR Supra, the Z4 boasts differently tuned linkages and bushings. The manual option is reserved for the 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine variant, known as the M40i, ensuring a powerful and exhilarating driving experience.
BMW is set to roll out the manual Z4 in March 2024, marking a significant milestone for those who yearn for a more hands-on driving experience. Unlike limited-run offerings, BMW intends to produce as many manual Z4s as there is demand, making this an exciting option for stick shift enthusiasts.
