Spirit Airlines’ upcoming launch of flights to Tulum, Mexico, has hit a roadblock as the airline announces the postponement of its services to the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport. The delay, attributed to ongoing mechanical issues with engine parts, comes just weeks before the scheduled inaugural departure.
Initially slated to commence on March 28, the flights from both Orlando International Airport and Tampa International Airport to Tulum have been postponed indefinitely, according to confirmation from Spirit Airlines to Travel + Leisure. The decision to delay the start date stems from operational constraints related to Pratt & Whitney GTF engine availability, a representative from Spirit Airlines explained in a statement.
“We apologize to our guests for any inconvenience, and we’re reaching out to those with impacted travel plans to offer alternate flight options or a refund,” the representative added, expressing regret for the disruption caused to travelers’ plans. Despite the setback, Spirit Airlines remains committed to serving Tulum in the future and pledges to share updated scheduling information as soon as it becomes available.
