As excitement builds for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, Delta Air Lines has announced the addition of a second flight to provide passengers with a unique opportunity to witness this celestial event from 30,000 feet. This decision follows the overwhelming response to their initial flight offering, which sold out in less than 24 hours.
Delta Flight 1010 is set to depart from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport at 12:30 p.m. CT and arrive in Detroit at 4:20 p.m. ET. Operated on an A321neo aircraft, the flight will boast 20 domestic first-class seats, 42 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 132 main cabin seats, ensuring a comfortable and unforgettable viewing experience for passengers.
Delta is not the only airline capitalizing on this celestial spectacle. Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines have also revealed plans to offer eclipse-themed flights, allowing passengers to witness the phenomenon from the skies. Alaska Airlines, in particular, is offering prime viewing opportunities aboard flights between San Diego International Airport and Boston, as well as flights between San Diego International Airport and Dulles International Airport.
Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Revenue Management and Network Planning at Alaska Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about the eclipse flights, emphasizing that passengers will enjoy some of the best seats to witness the event.
Dubbed the Great American Eclipse, this rare cosmic event is expected to traverse the United States from Texas to Maine on April 8. With the next total solar eclipse visible from the contiguous U.S. not projected until 2044, anticipation is running high among astronomers, skygazers, and travelers alike.
As long as weather conditions cooperate, passengers aboard Delta’s special flights will witness an awe-inspiring display of nature’s grandeur, offering an unforgettable front-row seat to one of the universe’s most captivating phenomena.
